Best Oklahoma City Hotels

AOL PICK from our Editors

Oklahoma City’s best hotels are a bargain. Even the most expensive hotel will not cost much over $300, and there are plenty of very nice, moderately-priced options. As we’ve said before, you’re going to need a car to explore the city, so you can choose a hotel based on amenities and decor, rather than location. Either way, you’ll be able to find a comfortable place to stay with easy access to restaurants, shopping and other points of interest.

The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City

The Skirvin Hilton Oklahoma City

Neighborhood: Downtown Price Range: Expensive

The Skirvin is Oklahoma City’s premier luxury hotel. Built in 1910 by oilman W. B. Skirvin, the hotel was luxurious from the very beginning. Skirvin built his own gas pipeline and electric plant for the hotel, and dug three wells to accommodate guests’ water needs. Each room had a private bath and a telephone, which was unheard of in 1911. In 2007, the Skirvin reopened after a $55 million renovation, and today is a stunning reminder of Oklahoma City’s early oil-boom days. The lobby’s marble floor and arched wooden entryways are all original to the building, and the decor is distinctly early-20th century. The English Gothic styling of the lobby and the art deco look of the guest rooms give you a sense of traveling back in time to the early days of Oklahoma’s statehood. And if that’s not enough, the Skirvin is reported to be haunted—just in case you like your elegance with a touch of mystery.

Colcord Hotel

Neighborhood: Downtown Price Range: Expensive

If you prefer the boutique hotel experience, the Colcord is the perfect destination. The Colcord opened its doors in 1910, but unlike the Skirvin, which is a trip back in time, the Colcord is fully modern, both in its decor and amenities. The rooms are slightly larger than the typical hotel room, and are fully wired, with flat-screen TVs, Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. But the Colcord is still a classic Oklahoma City landmark; the building was the city’s first skyscraper and the first building to have an elevator. For the best of both worlds—classic, historic elegance and chic modern sensibility—the Colcord is the perfect choice.

Marriott Waterford Hotel

Marriott Waterford Hotel

Neighborhood: Nichols Hills Price Range: Expensive

Nestled in residential Nichols Hills, the Waterford is a welcome break from the traditional hotel chain; it feels more like an old-fashioned inn than a Marriott, with its beautiful wood-paneled lobby and the small, intimate outdoor swimming pool. The Waterford is around the corner from some of Oklahoma City’s best local restaurants and boutiques, making it a nice way to experience real local culture. If you’re looking to get away from the more touristy parts of the city, the Waterford is the perfect place to stay.

Courtyard by Marriott Downtown

Courtyard by Marriott Downtown

Neighborhood: Downtown Price Range: Moderate

The Courtyard by Marriott is a typical Marriott, but if you’re planning to explore downtown Oklahoma City, the location is ideal, with easy access to a variety of restaurants and points of interest. This is a good option if you’re in town for a couple of days and are thinking of not renting a car; you can easily walk to restaurants and venues in both downtown and Bricktown. You won’t really get any local flavor here, but the hotel is comfortable and offers a fitness center and heated indoor pool. This is a nice way to experience Oklahoma City without spending a fortune.

Hampton Inn & Suites

Hampton Inn & Suites

Neighborhood: Bricktown Price Range: Moderate

If you’re coming to town to spend time in Bricktown, this is the perfect location. The hotel adjoins the Bricktown Ballpark, meaning that it’s just a short walk around the corner to play ball. Or you can request a room with a view of the ballpark and enjoy the game from your armchair (the view runs along the third base line). You’re also within easy walking distance of Bricktown’s other attractions, which means you can stroll to dinner rather than getting the car out. The hotel has a pool, too, and a fitness room, and complimentary beverage and breakfast areas in the lobby.

Quality Inn Trade Winds

Neighborhood: Bricktown Price Range: Budget

The Quality Inn is an ideal budget option. Proximity to Interstate 40 means you can get to all of the metro area’s destination hot spots with ease, but without paying a premium for your room. This isn’t the hotel for folks who are dreaming of lounging in the lobby (it’s pretty bare-bones, just a space to walk through on your way to the room), but the Quality Inn is a comfortable place to sleep at the end of a long day, and it will leave you with extra cash to spend on a fancy dinner out or a local shopping spree. Kick back and relax by the outdoor pool when the weather is nice, or take advantage of the hotel’s pool table if you need to stay inside.

Comfort Inn at Founders Tower

Neighborhood: Midtown Price Range: Budget

The Comfort Inn isn’t exactly in the heart of downtown, but it’s conveniently located and incredibly affordable. Billing itself as a “boutique” hotel, the Comfort Inn offers amenities that you won’t find at other comparably priced budget hotels, including kitchenettes and, in some rooms, whirlpool baths. The room decor is fairly minimalist, but each room is clean and well-lighted, and very comfortable. The hotel offers continental breakfast but no other meal options; not really a problem if you’ve rented a car. The Comfort Inn is a nice option if you’re looking for a way to see Oklahoma City without breaking the bank on a hotel.

Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Bricktown

Econo Lodge Inn & Suites Bricktown

Neighborhood: Bricktown Price Range: Budget

The Econo Lodge, as its name suggests, is a pretty basic hotel. Located east of downtown, it is within easy driving distance of the city’s most prominent attractions. The downside of staying here, of course, is the drive, particularly if you’re planning to explore Oklahoma City’s nightlife. But if you’re looking for a quiet, reasonably priced option for your visit, or if you like to be away from the noise of downtown, this is a good alternative. Optional amenities include refrigerators and mirowaves; there’s also an outdoor picnic area, which is the perfect spot to make a meal of delicious local takeout food.

Executive Inn Northwest

Neighborhood: Midtown Price Range: Budget

The Executive Inn caters to business travelers, but that doesn’t mean it’s not a viable option for vacationers. Located in midtown—north of the downtown and west of Nichols Hills—this is a hotel that requires a car. But since getting around in Oklahoma City requires a car in general, that shouldn’t put a kink in your plans.  And, as the Executive Inn website advertises, this is a hotel that allows you to “enjoy staying in a big city without paying the hefty lodging fees that usually accompany it!” If you’re looking for a clean, affordable place to sleep, this is a good bet. It’s also one of the few hotels in Oklahoma City that still offers smoking rooms.

Isola Bella

Neighborhood: Midtown Price Range: Budget

Isola Bella is not your typical Oklahoma City hotel; it offers extended stay, with what it bills as “resort style living,” meaning that the amenities are substantially better than your average budget hotel. Isola Bella is not close to most of Oklahoma City’s major attractions—it’s located in a remodeled apartment building in a residential neighborhood—but what it lacks in convenience to downtown and other points of interest, it more than makes up for in amenities. Isola Bella offers complimentary breakfast and dinner Monday through Thursday, an on-site spa and a 30,000-square-foot fitness center, all at budget price. If you’re planning to be in Oklahoma City for more than a few days, or if you’re someone who likes all the comforts of home when you travel, this is a nice alternative to a traditional hotel.
