Oklahoma City most often hits the news due to its extreme weather—most notably during tornado season—and for its sports teams. There’s more, however, to an Oklahoma City vacation than funnel clouds and football (though both are worth the trip). The city has a thriving art community, first-rate boutique shopping and a variety of eclectic food options. Oklahoma City’s a little bit Southern, a little bit Western, and all original. Perhaps the most appealing aspect for visitors is the cost; while you’ll need to rent a car to get around, that expense will be offset by the fact that hotels and restaurants—even those that fall into the high-end category—are not nearly as pricey as they would be farther east or west. Oklahoma City travel is made even more attractive by its family- and kid-friendly attractions, with plenty to interest the youngsters, or just the young at heart.
