Xochitl, Philadelphia

Xochitl (pronounced "so-cheet") serves up a modern take on authentic Mexican cuisine, and a great variety of mixed drinks to go along. Seating is prompt and spacious in a warmly decorated hall, and the servers are knowledgeable and friendly—they'll make guacamole for you at the table to go with fresh tortilla chips. Try one of their tempting seafood dishes, such as their Vuelve a la Vida ("Return to Life"), a shrimp, octopus, and oyster cocktail served with jalapeños, tomatoes, and avocado. Or go for one of their hot dishes like the Pechuga de Pollo Rellena, a sesame-crusted chicken breast smothered in pepper sauce and served with fresh tortillas. The Xochitl lounge is a good option as well, with comfortable couches and a long bar.
