Overview

Located under the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge on cut-off pilings from the Silas Pearman Bridge it replaced, this 22-acre park offers a variety of recreational activities, amenities and entertainment. Dedicated to War Veterans, an eight-foot tall bronze statue is prominently placed at the entrance. Visitors can fish off the 1200-foot-long pier over the Cooper River (daily fishing passes, tackle sales and gear rental are available at the pier shop). Sandwiches, ice cream and souvenirs can be purchased from the River Watch Cafe and Gift Shop. With spectacular views of Charleston Harbor, visitors can relax on swings along the pier, enjoy picnic areas and let their children romp on the playground. The Visitor Center provides information about local attractions, bus passes and restrooms. Events held at the pavilion at the end of the pier include dances and events such as Shaggin' on the Cooper and Bluegrass Under the Bridge. Admission to the park is free, but there is a small fee for parking. Visit the website for hours of operation as they vary seasonally. -Natasha Lawrence
