- Venue Description:
Founded in 1681 within the original city walls, this is one of Charleston's oldest churches and established the first Sunday school in South Carolina. With its beautiful circular architectural Romanesque style and large arched entry designed by Robert Mills in 1806, the church has survived an 1861 fire, Civil War bombardment and an 1886 earthquake. Open for tours, the church offers a variety of cultural programs including plays, concerts and Jazz Vespers. The churchyard cemetery also features an interesting view into its past where prominent residents, politicians and merchants from Charleston's Civil War era are buried. - Natasha Lawrence
