Overview

Austin has always been known for its lush landscape and tree-friendly topography, but downtown is now a little bit greener. City dwellers can enjoy Leaf, a restaurant devoted entirely to- as one might guess- salad. This innovative eatery in the trendy 2nd Street District was opened in 2006 and boasts a giant counter chock-full of fresh fixins. Leaf's menu is a tribute to Austin landmarks, with moderately-priced salads such as the "West Campus," "Greenbelt," and "Capitol City Cobb." Of course, it wouldn't be Austin without a build-your-own option, which allows hungry patrons to pick from an overwhelming variety of toppings, including five lettuce mixes, artichoke hearts, mandarin oranges, candied pecans, goat cheese, and a long list of homemade dressings. Grab lunch at Leaf for a healthy break in between shopping sprees. -Sarah Murray
