Dallas Pop Culture

Get in gear for your trip by watching re-runs of "Dallas," the TV show that introduced us to the warring Ewing clan. Set and filmed just outside Dallas, "Dallas" the movie is due to hit the big screen in 2012. If you want more recently shot intrigue, the hit TV show "Prison Break" was filmed in the Big D, as was Oscar-winning movie "Boys Don’t Cry." Prepare for your close-up with Dealey Plaza with Oliver Stone’s "JFK" and "Born on the Fourth of July." Read up on the events of that fateful day in November in James W. Douglass’s "JFK and the Unspeakable," or delve further into Dallas history with Jeff Guinn’s "Go Down Together: The True, Untold Story of Bonnie and Clyde." Soak up the sounds of Dallas en route with local stars Erykah Badu, Edie Brickell, Reverend Horton Heat, Old 97’s, rapper MC 900 Ft Jesus, and 23-member outfit Polyphonic Spree. For the sound of old Deep Ellum, put together a playlist of Dallas blues legends, such as T-Bone Walker, Blind Lemon Jefferson and Robert Johnson.
