Absinthe Brasserie, Houston

It was a dark & stormy cocktail…or maybe it was the St. George Absinthe. Regardless, this hard-to-find neighborhood lounge has some of the most interesting drinks in Houston. Not to mention a fantastic menu which includes incomparable mini-pizzas (there's not a bad one in the bunch named after 19^th century painters). Don't let the seedy strip center and medieval wood doors deter—go right on in, let the eyes adjust to the dark, and belly-up to the friendly bartenders who know their drink and food. Wednesday is Bring Your Own CD or iPod night—and they're not shy about cranking it up. - JoAnn Takasaki
