Tecate, Houston

On a busy street, dwarfed by a nearby hospital, just across from a mega DIY home store, is a little hole-in-the-wall Mexican restaurant that is easy to miss, but should be savored. Tecate has an old, homey feel. You could be in Mexico with the colorful walls, murals and décor. Don’t let that old saddle sitting in the corner distract you from the complimentary chips and out-of-this-world salsa. The menu is extensive, so go for what you love. Chances are it’ll be to your liking. The carne asada with fried egg on top is great. Enchiladas are cheesy and filling. Margaritas are cold and frosty.
