If you haven’t figured it out yet, you won’t find any velvet ropes, all-night raves, or comedy clubs here. But Montpelier is a surprisingly lively hotspot for nightlife, thanks to its community of musicians and artists, and thanks to the cricket-chirping dullness of some surrounding towns. People flock here for live music, fine wine, microbrews and movies. You’ll find most of the action downtown.
Three Penny Taproom
This place to be seen has a tin ceiling, a black and white tile floor and a 24-stool bar. It's a self-proclaimed important destination for serious high-quality wine and craft beer drinkers. Look for 24 different beers on draft, more than 60 different bottles of beer, plus charcuterie, cheeses, tacos on Friday “Latin” nights and sushi on Saturday and Sunday.

Just about everyone will feel at home here, catching acts that range from “freak folk” and acoustic to experimental and soul.

Charlie O's World Famous Bar
Hosting a wide range of live music, Charlie O's promotes itself a local dive for "nice people.” Think “Cheers,” with a mix of construction workers, legislators and bikers, plus decades’ worth of photos and memorabilia on the wall. If you’re here to eat, too, bring your own takeout, unless you like dining solely on chips and beef jerky.
Positive Pie
You might come here for the hand-tossed pizza, but you stay for the music. The last Friday of each months mean DJ Haitian and 2KDeepCrew while other evenings may see indie-pop rock, neo-soul funk, hip-hip, Afro-beat or plain old rock ‘n’ roll. At an Italian trattoria, yes. There’s also specialty martinis, microbrews, and an extensive list of wines by the glass.

The Black Door Bar & Bistro
The Black Door has New Orleans noir: brick walls, low lighting, lots of texture and deep reds. There's live music, comedy acts and extemporaneous storytelling on the third floor lounge. Come here to drink and have a good time.
