New Kent's solitary thoroughbred racing track Colonial Downs is the host of high profile equestrian championships, namely the Virginia Derby, the Colonial Turf Cup, the Virginia Oaks, the Strawberry Hill Races and more. Thoroughbred flat racing and standard-bred harness racing are the most popular types of races held at this circuit. The 180 feet wide Secretariat Turf Course at Colonial Downs, is the largest grass track in North America and stages most of the summer races.
