Hugh Dillon is a multiple award nominee, once for a Genie Award in 2007 for ‘Best Supporting Actor’ for his role as Sonny in the Canadian box office hit The Trailer Park Boys: The Movie. and recently for a Genie Award for his starring role in Flashpoint.

Hugh Dillon stars in the series "Durham County" which premiers on September 7th on the ION network at 10pm. Hugh plays Mike Sweeney, a homicide detective who transplants his family from Toronto, Canada to Durham County to start over. Why you ask? His partner was killed and his wife is diagnosed with breast cancer. However, he soon finds out that Durham County, NC is not as slow paced as he was lead to believe.

AOL Travel got a chance to catch up with this Canadian born actor to find out why St. Lucia is the place to go to get away from his busy life and why New York City was such an inspiration for him when growing up.

Is there a destination or travel moment that inspired you, or even changed your life? If so, where and why?

New York City. I went there when as 21 and it inspired me as only NYC can. It haunted me - how do I get there? As a musician it really hit me the first time I played at CBGB. As an actor, the first movie that I filmed in New York was Down To The Bone. I fell in love with the place.

What's your biggest pet peeve when you travel?

My biggest pet peeve is when you fly somewhere and then still have a 2 hour drive after you land.

Where is your favorite place to get it away from it all?

I went to St. Lucia after I finished shooting the second season of Durham County and it was incredible! The island is small. I jumped on a jet ski with an ipod and i was gone.

I have to agree with Hugh on his choice of St. Lucia. My wife and I traveled there for our honeymoon and experienced complete and utter relaxation. Beautiful beaches and wonderfully nice people abound.

When traveling, what's the very first thing you do when you enter your hotel room?

I check out the view while I order room service.

As a celebrity, you travel a lot for your job. What are some tips and tricks that you've found to make the journey more comfortable?

If you can do it the best travel tip is ID and a credit card and nothing else.

I wonder what Hugh’s average hotel room bill is if he regularly orders room service. These days, room service is unbelievably expensive. I was just told by a friend of mine who stayed at a more luxury hotel that an order two rolls of sushi and a glass of wine was $70! We should’ve asked Hugh was he likes to order.
