One could say that Kim Wayans likes to dabble and is definitely hard working. She's an actress, comedian, producer, writer and director. She's best known for her starring role along side her comedic brothers on the FOX comedy show In Living Color. She's also appeared on the big screen in hit movies I'm Gonna Git You Sucka and Don't Be a Menace to South Central While Drinking Your Juice in the Hood.
We sat down with this talented actress to pick her brain about her travel experiences. Read on as she shares what bugs her most when traveling, where she goes to escape from the every day and her tip for making your vacation go as smooth as possible.
Is there a destination or travel moment that inspired you, or even changed your life? If so, where and why?
Rio de Janiero. It so rich in diversity and the people have such infectious, joyous spirits. And those drums transport me to another dimension. It really feels like my spiritual home.
What's your biggest pet peeve when you travel?
Once you leave this country, Charmin is in short supply. We're so spoiled here. Toilet paper feels like sandpaper all over the world, but here.
Where is your favorite place to get it away from it all?
Kauai. Can you spell PARADISE.
When traveling, what's the very first thing you do when you enter your hotel room?
Unplug those plug-in air fresheners that give me asthma, and light my Nag Champa incense, which I never leave home without. Then I rush over to get dibs on my favorite side of the bed.
As a celebrity, you travel a lot for your job. What are some tips and tricks that you've found to make the journey more comfortable?
Take Airborne before I get on the plane; invest in a mini-ionizer to wear around your neck (they really work); pack light; bring my own sheets & pillow and byof (bring your own food).
Be sure to catch Kim Wayans as she will be performing her autobiographical one woman show, "A Handsome Woman Retreats" at this year's National Black Theatre Festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina on Thursday, August 6th & Friday, August 7th. Please visit http://www.nbtf.org/index.html or call (336) 723-7907 for more information. Kim Wayans and her husband, Kevin Knotts, are the authors of the Amy Hodgepodge children's book series. The Secret's Out (Book #5 in the Amy Hodgepodge series) is in stores now.
